Tesla Roadster: Past and the Future

Model 3, Model Y, and Model S are three common names related to Tesla. After all, these are their most-sold models and what we typically imagine a Tesla to be. The Tesla Roadster, however, is what is considered the future of Tesla in the supercar market.

In 2017, Elon Musk debuted the Roadster showing the world what it’s gonna be like. It was supposed to be launched in 2021 but now it is delayed to 2023. However, what most of us have considered the new Tesla in its lineup, it’s just Version 2.0.

The Past: 2009 Tesla Roadster

The Tesla Roadster was Tesla’s first-ever car. Back when they were just a California-based startup they took Lotus Chassis and built an electric car over it. While it had a lot of problems, it also had serious figures to boast about. Which was enough to put Tesla on the board.

Clocking 0-60mph in 3.7 sec, with 125mph top-speed and 244 miles range. In 2008, these were some insane numbers coming out of electric vehicles.

The Roadster proved itself to be more than some batteries and wires, changing the perspective on EVs. And between 2009-2012, Tesla sold 2450 units of Tesla Roadster worldwide.

Out came the Model S, and no Roadster anymore, till 2017.  The 2017 Tesla Roadster 2.0’s reveal caught people off guard, building a lot of hype. With Elon Musk claiming more insane numbers, it sounded even crazier and kind of impossible. But given what the 2021 Model S Plaid is capable of, it is more possible than ever.

The Future: 2023 Tesla Roadster

While the all-new Roadster was launched in 2023, you can purchase it on the Tesla Website.   Where you also get a whole sheet of numbers showing what it’s capable of.

To begin with, the 2023 Tesla Roadster is priced at $200,000 with a $50,000 reservation price. However, for $250,000, you get what is called the Tesla Roadster Founder’s edition with only 1000 reservations available.

2023 Tesla Roadster Performance

The Roadster claims similar numbers as the Model S Plaid. That’s because both the Roadster and Plaid would have the same powertrain. Powered by a 200KW battery, the Roadster would feature a combination of 3-electric motors and an all-wheel drivetrain.

Claiming 0-60mph in 1.9 secs, 0-100mph in 4.4 secs, and a quarter-mile in 8.8 sec, it will be the quickest production car ever. Topping at over 250 mph, the Roadster would beat most hypercars at a fraction of their price. Not to mention that it has an est. range of 620 miles which is just insane.

2023 Tesla Roadster Interiors

What’s even more surprising is that the Tesla Roadster is a 4-seater. The rear seats are small, but they can occasionally be used for Kids or luggage.

There is not much information on the interior techs and features. But, we do know that it will carry Tesla’s minimalistic theme with a glass panel roof and possibly two trunks. It will also feature a big infotainment screen covering the whole center console.

In terms of interior features, you can expect the same tech as the Tesla Model 3. The Roadster would have Tesla autopilot features with all the Model 3 safety features as standard.
